Miss Maudie Atkinson
Miss Maudie Atkinson lives across the street from the Finches in To Kill a Mockingbird. She is a strong, confident woman who always speaks her mind and treats Jem and Scout differently than other adults, she tries to treat them maturely, not as unsophisticated children.
She is well known for being the person to say "it is a sin to kill a mockingbird" because "they only do one thing for us and that's sing their hearts out for us."
Miss Maudie is kind of a mother figure in the text, along with Aunt Alexandra. She gives the children advice and treats them sternly.
In chapter five, the reader learns more about Miss Maudie as she shows the reader her ways of treating children and what characteristics she has.
